HMS Somerset (F82) is an active Type 23 Duke-class frigate of the Royal Navy. Primarily deployed as an advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) vessel, she serves as one of the frontline "workhorses" of the fleet. Her core mission centres on safeguarding the UK's Continuous At-Sea Nuclear Deterrent, protecting undersea communications data cables, and defending British territorial waters. In late 2023, she made naval history by becoming the first Royal Navy warship to be fitted with and fire the elite Naval Strike Missile (NSM), replacing the obsolete Harpoon anti-ship weapon system.
