Sandown-class Mine Countermeasures Vessel
Built by Vosper Thornycroft, at Woolston, Southampton and launched on 16 April 1988, by the ship’s Lady Sponsor, Birgitte Eva van Deurs Henriksen. HMS Sandown commissioned on 9 June 1989.
She is one of originally twelve Sandown-class Mine Counter-Measures Vessels (MCMV) in the Royal Navy, constructed with glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) hulls.
She was decommissioned from Royal Navy service in 2005 and sold to Estonia as EML Admiral Cowan commissioning on 22 January 2009 at Rosyth Dockyard after a refit there.
Motto: “Ad Omnia Paratus – Prepared for all”
