HMS ST ALBANS is the sixth ship to bear the name and the sixteenth and last ship of the class. She was built at Yarrow Shipbuilders and launched on 6 May 2000 and commissioned on 6 June 2002. St Albans sailed for a nine-month mission to the Middle East on 27 November 2015, carrying a Merlin HM2 and ScanEagle UAV. Whilst crossing the Mediterranean she was involved with the seizure of 320 kg of cocaine worth more than £1 million on the street. On 11 January 2016, HMS St Albans joined the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and the USS Harry S Truman, the painting was commissioned to mark this deployment. HMS St Albans arrived back in Portsmouth on 5 August 2016.
