Sheffield-class Type 42 Batch 1 Destroyer

HMS Newcastle was laid down by Swan Hunter, Tyne & Wear on 21 February 1973, launched on 24 April 1975 and commissioned on 23 March 1978. She was the penultimate ship served on by the artist Ross Watton, in 1979. HMS Newcastle was known as 'The Geordie Gunboat' and decommissioned on 1 February 2005.
