Archer-class Patrol Vessel
HMS Trumpeter was built by Vosper Thorncroft and commissioned into Royal Navy service in 1988. She has a displacement of 54 tonnes is 68 ft (20.8 m) long with a propulsion of 2 shafts from Rolls Royce M800T diesels, producing a speed of 22 knots. She is attached to the Cambridge University Royal Navy Unit (URNU), affording Officer Cadets with the ship knowledge and navigational training they’ll require for a Royal Naval career. Past highlights have included deployment on the River Thames for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, assisting in security and partaking in the pageant. She also assisted in security for the 2012 London Olympics.
The painting shows the vessel on the River Orwell with the former RN training establishment of HMS Ganges to the left with the Orwell Bridge south of Ipswich and container ship cranes at Harwich to the right.
