Duke-class Type 23 Frigate
HMS Northumberland was built by Swan Hunter on the Tyne at Wallsend
and launched by her sponsor Lady Kerr. She was commissioned into the Royal Navy on the 29 September 1994. Northumberland is the eighth RN ship to bear the name and the ninth in the class of Type 23 frigates. She is based at Devonport and is part of the Devonport Flotilla. She is shown in Norwegian waters in company with a Tide-class tanker. She has now been converted to carry the Sea Ceptor Missile. The painting was commissioned by the ship and is owned by the 2017 to 2019 Commanding Officer.
