Amazon-class Type 21 Frigate
HMS ARDENT (F184) Type 21 Amazon class frigate built by Yarrow Shipbuilders launched on 9 May 1975 by Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester and commissioned 13 October 1977. She took part in Operation Armilla the defence of shipping in the Persian Gulf during the first half of 1981. On 19 April 1982 she departed the UK for the last time, as part of the Task Force to liberate the Falkland Islands. Following a brief stop at Ascension Island she arrived in Falkland Sound on 21 May 1982, to support bombardment at Goose Green. During this operation she came under several successful air attacks from Argentine aircraft, which resulted in her sinking the following day and the loss of 22 members of the Ship's Company. She was 384ft long and displaced 3,520 tons. Propulsion was solely by Gas turbines, achieving a speed of 32 knots. Original painting is sold.
